What I’m About

DSCF3543

I am known for my ability to make beautiful and purposeful designs come to life. Whether creating furniture, designing interior spaces, constructing buildings or directing the art for films, my projects are all carried out with the spirit of my design philosophy:

Using socially responsible practices and reclaimed or environmentally conscious materials to make new objects and spaces embodied with a story of their own creation.

With every design, my natural instinct is to consider what existing material can be reclaimed, repurposed or found on site that can not only fit the requirements, but also add its own history or sense of place to the overall impact of the final creation. My second focus is on identifying local artisans who can shape the piece or project with their hands and minds and personally or professionally benefit from their work.

One of the greatest lessons that working in Tanzania has taught me is how vital it is that the funds and knowledge used for a product or project are distributed within the community in which it is produced.

While many people see my work without knowing the context in which it was created, I believe that people can sense it, and I consider that to be why I have been so successful.
