Siri Yetu (meaning our secret in Kiswahili) is a vacation rental property on an amazing, isolated stretch of beach in Tanzania. I designed and managed the whole project from start to finish.

Our goal was to use traditional knowledge of limestone building including slaking lime for plaster using coral rock. I researched Swahili and Zanzibari building techniques and hired skilled artisans to mix the colors and make the plasters.

Because of the remote location we tried to use materials from the surrounding area. We actually quarried all of the rock used in the construction on site!

We incorporated solar panels and wind turbines to generate all of the power for this off-the-grid property.

It is a favorite weekend destination for residents of Dar es Salaam to escape to and lose themselves.
